Historic Charm

Don't you just love the charm of an older home?! One of our favorite types of projects to work on is historic homes. Old homes always tell a story and have so much character. We love hanging on to that character, enhancing the historic elements with a fresh new look. Take a peek at one of our recent projects in Heritage Hills located near downtown Oklahoma City.

There were two walls taken down in order to open up the floor plan and make it more functional. Of the three fireplaces in the home, we fell in love with this one located in the dining room. To give it a little face lift, we brightened it up with white paint and a black mantel and switched out the sconces. The brick detail is just stunning and the neutral color palette allowed us to play up the artwork and create a nice focal.

All original built-ins were freshened up with paint. We chose an emerald green from Benjamin Moore's Grand Entrance Collection called Tavern Door for the walls in this space, which is being utilized as the billiard room.

All of the original wood floors were sanded and re-stained throughout the house. The kitchen had previously been updated but the new homeowners wanted a larger island to sit at. We added more cabinetry to the backside which allowed for more storage and then extended the countertop to have an overhang on two sides, seating a total of 6. All cabinetry and walls received a fresh coat of paint. Sherwin Williams Inkwell was used on the island.

While there was not a master bathroom in the original plan of the home, we took out a closet and created a master bath off of the master bedroom. There was another room adjacent to the master which originally functioned as lounge or sitting area. We turned this space into a large walk-in closet with custom built-ins, which then created a full master suite fit for the homeowners.

The new homeowners were about to become new parents, so we had the opportunity to design the nursery for a sweet baby girl. This room had a dance bar and mirror previously which we kept and worked around. It is truly fit for a ballerina!

Every room in this beautiful historic home got a face lift. We altered cabinetries in both the powder bath and hall bath. The utility room was moved upstairs and received all new cabinets, flooring and under-counter refrigerator. There are a total of 4 bedrooms upstairs and two bathrooms. The downstairs has the main entry, billiard room, formal living and dining, family room and kitchen and powder bathroom. All rooms received a fresh coat of paint, flooring was revitalized, new tile in all bathrooms, and more. Even with the updates, this home still has the wonderful historic charm it did back in the early 1900s.
